I have complicated feelings about teachers’ unions, which I’ll probably delve into in another post someday. But one of my least favorite things about being in the union is the amount of junk mail that they send me. It seems like at least once a week, I get a letter about some kind of insurance or a credit card or some other service that the union is trying to get me to sign up for. A few of them have been useful, but most of them are things I’ve decided against purchasing. Yet they continue to send me junk mail week after week, and I don’t know of any way to get myself off of their mailing list. So I’ve started a minor protest. Every time they send me an envelope for my reply with the postage pre-paid, I’m sending it back. Empty. It probably won’t do anything, but it does make me feel just a little better.
